his power wheels

Posted on July 29, 2010

Aidan is stil very obssessed with his collection of power wheels. He has a basketfull of them and each week, he has his favourite cars which he’d bring with him wherever he is - and even to school. He probably figured it out that it’s easier to carry around 4-5 cars with him as opposed to a basketful of them which is too big and heavy for him to bring up and down the stairs.

That silver Audi car? He calls it ‘Mommy’ car and Daddy’s car is the black convertible.

He loves it when we speed while driving (within the speed limits).

He loves it when we drive over bumps.

He loves it when we take a sharp corner while driving.

At times, he’d ask me innocently, “Mommy. Bang the car. Cannn?”

Gotta love that innocence in this 3yo.

Aidan @ 3y 2m

20 July 2010 - Aidan @ 3y 2m

Snapped this photo of Aidan while I was working in my study room. He was lying on the floor and had his bottom half of his body (waist downwards) under my chair. He just laid there for a bit, chillin’, staring up at me as I typed away…

I’m so guilty of not posting up his monthly developments on the blog. I did Ashley’s monthy development updates on the blog up till she was 4yo!

Ok so here are some updates on Aidan at 3y 2m

Speech

I love the way Aidan speaks.  He’d say things like….

“Mommy…..cheh-cheh no love me…..”

“Lisa Marie (his classmate)  love me….”

Or if he is half way playing and wants to go to the loo to do his big business, he’d tell his sister..”Cheh-cheh…I go (to) toilet. You no touch Aidan’s car ok? Ok cheh-cheh??”

Or if he tries to attract my attention while I’m working and I just agree with him without taking my eyes off the computer, he’d say, “Mommy. You didn’t see.”

He is such a squeeler. He likes to ‘report’ any of his sister’s wrong-doings to us.

Overall, he is improving in his speech. He knows how to express himself clearly to us.

He loves…

…his toy cars. He has a basket FULL of them and he plays with them EVERY day!

…his thumb. He’s still a thumb sucker…and he loves to play with my hair!!!

….food. junk food. non-junk food. fruits. Yoghurt. Vitagen. Cheese. What-have-yous…

….football! Me thinks he’s gonna be like his daddy.

…school! Surprisingly huh? considering he cried the loudest in school on the first few days of kindy.

Siblings

The kids play and FIGHT every single day.

Makes me mad all the time.

They’d play, then fight, then cry….then play again…and it goes on and on.

Aidan hardly ever bite Ashley anymore. I think (and hope!) that he is past that stage. I used to pity Ashley when she got bitten by Aidan. They’d be a bite mark on her for days!

He dislikes

..it when we speak in Mandarin. Whenever Ashley and I converse in Mandarin (with the limited vocab they we know of), he’d say, “No CHINESE!”

It’s nice to have a little one in the family. Ashley’s like grown out of her baby-ish ways. Aidan’s still our little baby to us :)

Posted on July 23, 2010

(Pic taken on 3 July 2010) - Ashley with a Hershey’s chocolate on one eye…

Ashley was on the phone with my Mom this evening…

My mom asked her whether she prays or not…

The lil missy responded that she prays every night before going to bed.

Then…

My Mom/Grandma : Pray for me also ok?

Ashley : Hey!? You pray yourself….

Cheeky gal.

Have a great weekend!

P/S Check out my shopping blog for what I got recently online - a DSLR strap dress. I likey!

The new Kakak

Posted on July 22, 2010

Picked up my new helper (Siti) yesterday from the maid agency.

So far so good.

First of all, thanks Jazzmint for recommending this agency to me.

They are very efficient and professional.

On to the maid.

First impression - let’s just say that I felt somewhat relieved.

But it’s only the first day and it’s our honeymoon period.

The kids were ok with her and she with them.

Will update more in 2 weeks’ time. By then she should sort of get into the groove of things….

*fingers crossed*

Goodbye Kakak Tini

Posted on July 20, 2010

It seems like only  yesterday that Tini arrived into our household. Today marks the end of her 2-year stint in Malaysia and she boarded the plane back to Bandung, with mixed feelings - relief + sadness - but mostly, relief!

Relieved to see her family. Her kids. Her parents. Her husband.

And I could see that she was abit sad to leave us as well (or I hope she was as sad as I was!)

We never took her for granted during her entire stay here - always treating her well, like part of the family in hopes that she would extend her contract with us but sadly, family duty calls and she decided to go back home to look after her own kids.

She was only supposed to leave today at 12.30pm but she started the day like any other normal day.

Woke up at 5.30am (”Sudah biasa’ or so she claims)

Did the laundry, vacuumed, mopped, cleaned, cooked.

She made sure that our meals for the day (till dinner) were sorted out.

I had to stop her from working so that she could focus on packing her stuff.

She arrived Bandung at 5.30pm (Malaysian time) and I received an sms from her to say that she had arrived safely.

I’m quite sad that she has gone.

On the bright side, my maid agency informed us that we can pick up our new helper tomorrow.

Here’s hoping that she is a keeper. Like Tini.

Lil Miss Ballerina loves to accesorize

Posted on July 19, 2010

(Pic taken on 17 July 2010) - Lil Miss Ballerina

As I helped her to get ready for her ballet class, it dawned on me that this lil missy has grown up too quickly.

When she was a baby, I always anticipate when she will take a first step and say her first word.

Now that she is 5, sometimes, I wish she was back to being a little helpless baby.

These days, after she is done dressing up, she’d request for her musical jewelry box which she sometimes refer to  as her magical box. In this box, she keeps all her rings, bracelets, necklaces and what-have-yous…

That morning, while getting ready to go for her ballet class,  she decided to add a little accessory to her ears. She wore a pair of earrings from one of the princess sets she got as presents.

I bought her the mirror she is holding in the picture above sometime back when I we shopped at a street market. It was pretty inexpensive. I bought a black compact mirror with the rose accent as shown above and got Ashley a hand-mirror.

Yesterday, after she changed into  a fresh set of clothing after her shower, I caught her gazing into the mirror, as though looking at the imperfections of her looks , tucking her hair behind her ear, positioned her clip-on earrings so that it stayed at the position she wanted. Before I know it, I’m sure she will be wanting to use wrinkle eye cream as an early prevention. Kids these days, they grow up too fast! Technology do play a part in it too. I want to hit that pause button for a couple of years, filter our those Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber songs for now and just want them to listen to kiddy songs!!!

P/S Check out my latest online purchase - this is what every girl should have in their handbag!

Drawing

Posted on July 17, 2010

I’ve been reading ZMM’s blog and realised that her kids express themselves by drawing and realised that my kids hardly draw. I realised that we have not been really encouraging them to draw so I sat both the kids down, gave them a piece of drawing paper each, played the new Mandarin DVD which I recently purchased (You can read about it here) at the background and got them to start drawing.

Aidan only likes (or can only draw) shapes for now. He can fill the entire drawing paper with shapes!

Ashley on the other hand needs a little nudge when it comes to drawing. She kept asking me how to draw this and that. I told her to use her own imagination but she ended up copying me! I told her to draw them playing at the playground and I drew with them. She basically looked at what I was drawing and followed suit - which I don’t mind. I guess that’s a start? Eventually, I believe that when they continue to draw, they’d rouse their own imagination and draw on their own accord. To me, drawing is not about art.

Drawing is about hand-eye coordination.

Drawing is about being able to stay focussed on a subject and then project it on a piece of paper.

Drawing is about being able to make comparisons in different aspects - in shapes, color, sizes, textures and in doing so, it’d allow the kids to make their own assessment.

I should have encouraged them to draw a long time ago. I guess now is better than never?

While we are on this subject, we came across the The Art Workshop located at Giza last night. I was quite interested to find out what classes they have to offer for kids and so we went into the shop, not realising that it was 9.05pm and the shop is supposed to be closed but the OPEN sign was still displayed on the door and we didn’t notice the opening times of the shop which was also pasted on the door. So the kids opened the door and went in, followed by Hubs and I. The lady manning the shop  was sitting at the deep  end of the shop - she looked at us and told us that they were closed. She didn’t look too pleased either.

Fine.

But if you’re doing a business and customers are already in your shop - you just chase them away? That woman was obviously not the owner of the shop but merely an employee because I as an employer will not chase potential customers out of my own shop even if it was 5 mins past the closing time.

Anyway, so we went out of the shop. I then signalled for the lady to come out since she shooed us away. She opened the door, stuck her head out and said gave me a look-of-inconvenience and said, “Yesss?”

That’s it! I snapped! I was tired too. The kids were behaving like monkeys at the mall.

I said, “Why are you giving me that face?”

She immediately changed her facial expression, lightened up and said, “What?”

I asked for her to give me a brochure of the available classes.

She went back in, took the brochure, handed it over to me and didn’t bother explaining anything to me.

Fine.

I ditched the brochure away and decided that I wasn’t going to enroll the kids in the class eventhough if it is a reputable place.

With an attitude like that, I’m sure I can make do without them! pffft!

what I got…

Posted on July 15, 2010

I promised to share what I got from  my Singapore trip  - eventually.  And I plan to do it slowly as most of the items I bought are clothing items so as and when it is being worn, I will photograph it. - eventually.

The first thing I bought is in my shopping blog. Go check it out.

I bought the top Ashley is wearing above from Fox Kids. It’s a halter neck top which ends at the hips (cause I got her a size suitable for 8yo) and she wore leggings with this top. If you want a clearer picture of it, check it out at the Fox website. Unfortunately (or fortunately for the kids?) I got more stuff for them than for myself. Or more like I got more stuff for ASHLEY than for anyone else. There’s just so many pretty things you can get for little girls, don’t you agree??? While we adults make sure that we don’t wear clothes that don’t flatter our bodies or select makeup which flatters our features  or while we’re busy searching for the best acne scar removal solution or what not, kids look good  as they are and they look good in anything!! I’m thankful that I have a little girl to play dress-up with :)

best buds!

4 July 2010 - Cousin Aaron (3y 7m)  and Aidan (3y 2m)

Love Love Love LOVE this picture of the boys!

They’re into Ben 10.

They’re into cars.

And look how tightly they have their arms around each other?

Classic.

Seeing the kids growing so fast before my eyes makes me realize that I’m no longer young!

Speaking of age, this photo was taken during my birthday dinner with family.

A year older, hopefully a year wiser and I definitely need to start using a good wrinkle cream. Fine lines on my face are slowing creeping up on me.

in my quest …

Posted on July 15, 2010

….to lead a healthier lifestyle, I’ve started going to the gym in the mornings before work. I try to go at least twice a week for a start….

I know..I’ve tried Yoga for a bit but the timing is just not so suitable for me and I stopped after 2 months.

I still swim on weekdays - at least twice a week (provided it doesn’t rain in the evenings and provided that the kids are not sick). The hardest part though is to get my butt dressed and out of the house to drive to the gym which is only a stone’s throw away. I procrastinate even when I am getting dressed to go to the gym but once I out of the house and in the car, I’m all geared up for the exercise.

I guess that you can say that instead of taking supplements like lipozene to suppress my appetite, I’d rather exercise regularly and eat whatever I want :)
