short getaway

Posted on April 27, 2009

Despite the havoc at work, I managed to get away for an extended weekend last week. We went to Tioman Island with a group of our friends. We left KL on thursday night, drove all the way to Mersing. Stayed a night at a budget hotel at Mersing and then took the 6.30am ferry from Mersing to Tekek. The weather was perfect for diving over the weekend and we managed to clock 6 dives in 2 days.

Ain’t the weather just perfect?

Check this out…if you want the ‘Tioman New Look’ –> ya know where to go….

Photo taken when we surfaced….

Malang Rock - 1 of the 6 dive sites we went to

We had yummy BBQ seafood dinner on the second night (and chinese food for the 1st night for dinner). After a day of diving, no appetite suppressant could suppress our appetites!

Oh the kids? My parents took care of them :P

Teacher Lydia

Posted on April 20, 2009

When Ashley attended school in the 1st school (school A) I sent her to, she was taught by a teacher called Teacher Lydia for a couple of months before she resigned. Lydia, like other teachers there really sayang all the kids - Ashley included.

A few months later, I stopped Ashley from going to that school and sent her to another school (school B). She has been attending school B for 4 months now and last friday, i was pleasantly surprised to see Teacher Lydia at school B. It was Teacher Lydia’s first day at school B. I brought Ashley up to Teacher Lydia and Teacher Lydia immediately embraced Ashley as though she was her own child  and we talked for awhile to catch up - all the time, Lydia was hugging and holding Ashley’s hand.

When we parted, I asked Ashley whether she remembered Teacher Lydia, to my surprise, she said ‘No’. I couldn’t believe that she didn’t remember Teacher Lydia because her memory is actually quite good.  I mean Ashley will remember some moments way back which even I would have forgotten. That night, i took out a picture of her class photo taken when she was at school A and pointed Teacher Lydia out to her.

Me : There. This is Teacher Lydia. (pointing at the picture). Don’t you remember her?

Ashley : No…

Me : Do you remember the other teachers in this picture?

Ashley : (she started naming all the teachers in the picture)

I was quite puzzled. Ashley did spend alot of time with Lydia as she was her class teacher but she couldn’t even remember her?

Anyway, today, I brought her to school. After sending her to her classroom, he class teacher informed me that Teacher Lydia had passed away on Saturday. The day after we met her at school B.

My bulu kembang.

Apparently, she was doing some housework on saturday and then complained that she couldn’t breathe. She called her hubs to send her to the hospital but before he arrived home, she passed away. She will be missed by many and I am sure people at her church will light a candle each for her by the altar.  Therefore..we must remind ourselves to always live each day as though there is no tomorrow. Looking back, I think it’s a blessing in disguise that Ashley does not remember her? Like it’s God’s way to shield her from the harsh truth? Maybe.

Teacher Lydia - May you rest in peace.

bOyz and their tOys….

Posted on April 20, 2009

I love watch Aidan divert all his concentration to his cars when he is playing with them. He’d slowly take them, one by one, from one end of the bed to the other and it is as though he is concentrating really hard to get the cars from one end to the other. Wonder what is going in that head of his….

23 Mar 09 - Aidan at 1y 10m - Love this shot of his…each time i whip out my camera and ask him to smile for the first time, he’d flash that smile of his. And after 2-3 shots, he won’t entertain me with that smile anymore.

11 april 09 - He’ll line them all up on the bed like this and if Ashley were to take 1 car away - all hell breaks loose. Seriously.

11 april 09 - He’ll even push his cot away from our bed so that she can run his cars along the side of the bed.

11 april 09 - and this is the only time i can take pictures of him. Other times, the lil fella will be running up and down which sometimes can make me go crazy especially when he is playing with Ashley cause they’d be laughing (which is ok), crying  and most times, Aidan will pull Ashley’s hair  because the both of them don’t want to raise the white flag and Ashley will be screaming while Aidan stays put with hair in his fist - cool as a cucumber, waiting for me to go mad till i feel as though spots are going to pop on my face and soon I’ll need to consider acne treatment. At the rate Aidan is going in pulling Ashley’s hair, she’d be bald pretty soon.

Lover’s Bridge, Tg Sepat

Posted on April 16, 2009

Lover’s Bridge, Tg Sepat

Last Saturday, we decided after a few days of planning and getting consensus from friends that we drive to Tanjung Sepat to walk on the Lover’s Bridge and then indulge in some seafood. So off we went. 10 of us in 2 cars. After ensuring that our wireless alarm was activated (since there are so many robberies these day), we left PJ at 5pm and arrived at Tg Sepat at about 6.30pm. Before the trip, I tried to google for directions on how to get there but I couldn’t find any info…..so now that we know how to get there…here are the directions.

1. From PJ, head towards Klang/Banting on the Kesas Highway

2. Exit at the Banting flyover

3. From Banting, head towards Morib/Tg Sepat. From the Banting exit, it took us about 1 hr to reach Tg Sepat. FYI, Tg Sepat is after Morib.

4. After Morib, you should be able to see signages leading to Tg Sepat.

When we arrived at the Lover’s Bridge…we took a stroll down the bridge which led into the dirty ocean. There were  a number of locals fishing from the bridge. And others, like us, were just visiting, enjoying the view and the experience on the bridge (Since we are so deprived of the ocean in PJ!)

After hanging around at the bridge, we adjourned to Ocen (no..this is not a typo error) Seafood Restaurant which was just next to the Lover’s Bridge. I read from other blogs that it is a popular hangout and booked a table for us in advance so that we didn’t have to stress about getting a table. The food was good. The washroom - ummmm…well..if you are up for adventure, know that there is no flush system…..what ever lands in the WC goes right out into the ocean! G.R.O.S.S! So if you use the washroom before sunset, you will have the pleasure of seeing the waves at the other end of the WC! Seriously!

Poor puffer fish was caught by one of the locals who were fishing. The fish just laid there waiting to die! We insisted that the poor fish be let loose into the sea!

Some local fishing…

..and more people fishing…

Ashley held on to Hub’s hand tightly..and was very careful when walking on the bridge

One for the fishermen cause 2 crabs who were stuck together…..and they were let loose into the sea as well…

Ocen Seafood Restaurant

Apparently this dish is supposed to taste better if the oysters were placed on top of the omelette. The sizzling oysters looked good as well…..

Aidan was tired and cranky and restless by the end of the evening…

the things she says…

7 April 09 - Ashley having fun on the swing at a playground…

At a party, she wanted some fruit punch….

Ashley : Mommy, I want that drink…

Mommy : Ok, I’ll get it for you but make sure you finish your food…

I stood up to get her that drink. After 3-4 steps, she said..

Ashley : (pointing her index finger with her head tilted down) Not so little ok?!

When did she turn into a mak nenek la?

Anyway, Happy Easter!

Lil Tau Keh @ 23 months

Posted on April 10, 2009

7 April 09 - I so love how his face lights up when he smiles…

Aidan is just 1 month shy of his 2nd birthday and OMG! He’s almost 2?????!?? Anyway, at 23 months, Aidan never cease to amaze us. He is getting mischievous by the day and he loves to trample on Ashley. Poor Ashley always gets scratches and bruises from Aidan. And when Ashley lashes out verbally at Aidan, their conversation would go like this…

Ashley : Aidan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You naughty boy!

Aidan : Boy! (Which he really meant to say ‘Good Boy’)

Ashley : I DONT’ WANT TO PLAY WITH YOU ANYMORE!!!!

Aidan : Ka-ko? (He meant to say Nicole…not sure why..)

Ashley : NO KA-KO!

Aidan : Mama? (MIL)

Ashley : NO MAMA!

Aidan : Yeh-yeh? (FIL)

Ashley : NO YEH-YEH!

Not sure why he would call out Nicole, Mama and Yeh-Yeh’s name but we reckon that those are the peple who would give in to him when he is at MIL’s house.

When we are all lying down on the bed, Ashley would lie down next to me on my left and hold my hair while she sucks her thumb and Aidan will do the same on my right. Then in less than 1 minute, he’d purposely go over to my left side where Ashley is and he’d land on Ashley so that he can squeeze in between me and Ashley. Ashley will then go over to my right side and hold my hair while she sucks her thumb. Aidan will then go over to where Ashley is, land on her and squeeze i nbetween Ashley and I. Ashley will then go over to my left side and this happens again and again until I really get fed up! And when Aidan lands on Ashley, he literally plonks his entire body on Ashley from standing position!  Boys will be boys….

Besides that, Aidan do understand what we say but he’s not ready to speak yet. He can string 2 -3 words together as of now…e.g.

- cheh-cheh? Come!

- Cheh-cheh? Duduk!

- cockroach!!! yeee!!! scared.

- Kakak????!!!!!! Mi-nom!!!!!! (drink)

- Kakak????!!! Ma-mum! (eat)

- Cheh-cheh? Hug! (with arms wide open, waiting for Ashley to hug him..)

I’ve tested whether the naughty step technique will work on Aidan. I believe he understand the consequences of not listening to me after counting from 1-3 because by the time I say 1, he’d look really sad and look away (like a real academy award actor). By the time I say 2, he would start to cry. By the count of 3, he’d be wailing! “WA! WA! WA!” I once sat him at the naughty corner for 1 min and he cried  and looked so sad that he was put there. After witnessing his sister get put in the naughty corner numerous times, I reckon he does understand what’s going on. However I don’t think we really need to implement the naughty step technique to him as of now…..we’ll wait till he’s a little older:)

Happy 23 months, Aidan!

Calling for help to take him off the see-saw. I was too busy snapping pictures of the kids (of course) :)

Aidan checking out the ants on the slide….

Aidan contemplating whether he should slide down the slide…

He loves to run around when we go out - which i reckon is normal but Ashley didn’t run around as much as Aidan when she was his age. . A friend of hub’s reckon that we should bring Aidan to the park more often so that he can run to his heart’s content. Perhaps it’d be easier just letting him run around an rv with less supervision required as opposed to letting him run around in open spaces :P - just kidding :P

>got stuff to buy?<

Posted on April 10, 2009

If you’re looking for stuff to buy, why not check out if there is any sale online before you get into your car, go through traffic, search for parking spaces in the mall and walk around to make your purchase? If i were you, I would rather not go through the hassle but check what online sale is available at buy.com.  You can compare prices there, have free shipping and pay by credit card! What’s not to like? At least I don’t have to worry about trying to shop and run after my 2 kids at the mall!

Good Day

Posted on April 7, 2009

21 Mar 09 - Gooood Morning Kiddos! Aidan sucking his toe while Ashley looked on in amazement…

When Aidan gets up in the morning
He always say “Good Day.”
When Aidan gets up in the morning
He always say “Good Day.”
Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine! , that is how he says “Good Day.”
Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine! , that is how he says.

When Ashley gets up in the morning
She always say “Good Day.”
When Ashley gets up in the morning
She always say “Good Day.”
No! No!  No! No!  , that is how she says “Good Day.”
No! No!  No! No!  , that is how she says.

Lately, both Ashley and Aidan have been been fighting like cats and dogs…..Aidan will be screaming Mine! Mine! MIne! and Ashley would be screaming No! No! no!

The Nursery rhyme above was improvised from its original version as per below. We get a kick out of singing the modified version in front of the kids. LOL!
This is the original version :
When cats get up in the morning
They always say “Good Day.”
When cats get up in the morning
They always say “Good Day.”
Meow, meow meow, that is how they say “Good Day.”
Meow, meow, meow, that is what they say.

Dogs – ruff cows – moo
Birds – tweet horses – ney
Pigs – oink frogs – croak

finally…

After 2 weeks of practising, I’m glad to say that I have started my wire bead ring range and have added it into my treasure box. Have a lookie here. I tell ya….and I’m sure other beaders will atest to it that once you start rolling…you can’t stop making ‘em! My finger tips are sore no more. At first, they did hurt - like how your finger tips would hurt when you start playing the guitar but after awhile, those finger tips will be just fine!  More wire bead rings in the making…I just can’t stop making them! hELP!

On another note…..the lil fella decided to  carry the stool which was in our bathroom one day, placed it on the floor in our bedroom so that he could climb on top of it to switch on the A/C.

…and when Ashley wanted to help him get down the chair, he held his hand up to get her to step away from him. *tsk*tsk*tsk*

He is a cheeky boy I tell ya….

she is 3years 10 months

Although I see Ashley day in and out everyday, I still get some moments when I look at her and it strikes me then there that she has grown up so much from being a baby to a little girl that she is now. She still wants to stick to me so that she can suck her thumb and touch my hair at the same time which i do find abit annoying especially when I am working and she’s standing at the back of me on my chair doing her thing….But then how long will this last? and when she’s passes this phase, will I miss it? I’m guessing I will so I usually let it slide and enjoy the moment.

Today, I had a 1-on-1 chat with her school teacher and I must say that I left the school with a big smile on my face and it would have stayed on my face even if you smacked me! In summary, the teacher said that :

- she is very good in following instructions

- she always helps the other kids - and even bring other kids (older and younger) to the loo like a ‘tai-ka-cheh’

-  she is very sociable and participates in all the activities

- she always volunteers to do more work than she is required to e.g. when the teacher asks her to complete a page in the activity workbook, she’d volunteer to do the other pages as well

- she is very matured at school

- she knows her numbers and some of the alphabets but need more help and guidance with phonics

So all in all, I am pretty happy with her progress in school.

Looking back…this was Ashley 2 years ago on the same day today.

2 April 2007 (Ashley at 1y 10m) - Ashley with her daddy…

….and look how fast she has grown!

23 Mar 09 - Ashley at 3y 9m

Happy 3y 10m Ashley……
