To the Land Below the Wind for the holidays….
Posted on December 31, 2008
This year, like any other year, we headed back to KK for Christmas. The trip back was a hectic one because Aidan is at the stage where he likes to run around and cannot keep still for half a minute. We were hoping that he will grab some shut-eye on the flight from KL to KK but no…..he wanted to move from one chair to the other, wanted to stand up on the chair and sit down on the floor….When we arrIved at my parents’ house, the kids were delighted with the huge compound for them to run around about.

22 Dec 2008 - Aidan and my dad’s dog, Rambo. Aidan can’t pronounce ‘Rambo’ properly and calls Rambo ‘Ba-Buuuu’ - which I find it really cute! Aidan loved to get cosy with Rambo but when Rambo was a bit too playful with Aidan, Aidan will call out my name in a very ‘geram’ way - ‘ma-miiiiii!!!’

22 Dec 2008 - The kids with Grandpa and Grandma. We had relatives over for dinner on 22 Dec 2008 and we sang Christmas Carols after that.
The kids enjoyed it at my parents place. While they ran around like crazy, Hubs and I were bisy chasing after them during the whole time we were there.

pressies hunting
Posted on December 31, 2008
Before Christmas, we were busy shopping at the last minute for Christmas presents. It wasn’t difficult to shop around for pressies as alot of places were on sale. We could also find best buy items listed in www.buy.com and also in our the newspapers everyday. Apart from that, I’ve started making handmade bracelets with semi precious stones to give away as presents as well. Here’s one of my favourite bracelets which I made which is made of red jaspers, antique brass findings/spacers and fresh water pearls.

of crowded places…
Posted on December 31, 2008
With the holiday season, there are so many places that are on Christmas Sale. The malls are packed with people everyday. Hence we make it a point to go to the shopping malls before 12pm to avoid the Christmas shopping crowd. We once made a mistake by going to the malls after 12pm and it took us ages to find a parking space not to mention that we also had 2 restless toddlers in the car who couldn’t wait to get off the car.

Too much good food during the holiday season!
Posted on December 31, 2008
As like other Christmases, when we go home to my parents’ house for the Christmas holidays, the whole house will smell of freshly baked cakes and roaster turkey and BBQ-ed Lamb Chops. We’d usually stuff ourselves silly everyday with mom’s cooking. Once the holiday season is over, I had better go easy with my food intake. Lipovox anyone?
My mom’s roasted turkey…Yummm!

Merry Christmas!
Posted on December 24, 2008
We’re at my parents’ place for the holidays…we make this trip back home once a year and coming back to my parents’ place always make me realise how the year passed by so quickly! We’re currently maidless - we decided to travel back home without the maid and boy is it hectic….the kids, especially Aidan was like a ‘giuk’ (kadazan for worm). He couldn’t keep still in the plane. He kept trying to stand on the seat and then the next moment he wanted to sit down, and then he wanted to stand up on the floor, walk around, sit on the floor etc etc. And then when we reached my parents’ house, the kids were running round as though they were in the wild wild west! They are probably deprived of space to run around at our home.
When we attended Christmas Eve mass, Ashley was busy walking from where we were sitting to where my parents were sitting. Aidan on the other hand was running up and down the aisle and at one point, he walked up the altar until an altar boy had to carry him and pass him to me! Luckily the priest could jest about it.
As chaotic as it may sound, it does feel nice to be spending the holidays with family.
Merry Christmas to all!

Lil Missy’s First concert
Posted on December 16, 2008
This is a very very backdated post. But hey! Better late than never I suppose:)
Before the school holidays started in October, the school that Ashley used to attend organized a school concert. Ashley participated in her class performance and danced to the tune of Elvis Presley. (geess…I can’t even remember the song now..I got to look at the video again…). A week before the concert, the school organized a full dress rehearsal with a photo session. When my FIL sent Ashley back home from school, Ashley had smudged make-up all over her face (because she must have rubbed her face with her hands. She had :
- ridiculously red cheeks from the enormous amount of blusher which her teacher had applied on her face
- thick eye brows coloured in black with an eye-brow pencil
- she had eye liner applied which made her eyes stare out at me
- smudged lipstick
- hair spray on her hair
I’ll never forget the look she gave me when she came out of FIL’s car. She had a rather worried look on her face - as though she was nervous to hear what i had to say about how she looked. In my heart, honestly, i thought the make up was terrible! but how could I possibly say that to her right? So out came a white lie…..I told her she looked great. After that, I could see that she was slightly relieved. After awhile, she commented that she didn’t like it when the teacher applied eye liner on her eyes. I made a point to not get her too made-up on the day of the concert.
On the day of the concert (25 Oct 2008), I applied a bit of eye shadow, blusher and light lip gloss with colour on her. She liked it and kept reminding me that she didn’t want her face to be ‘painted’.

This was how she looked like after i applied make-up on her.
But when we arrived at her school, her class teacher was already applying make-up for all the other kids and insisted that more should be applied on her face otherwise they won’t look good in photos and videos - or so she claims…. So Ashley had to sit in line and wait to be made up by her teacher.

She looked rather nervous while waiting to be made up ….

Check out how this girl was made-up. Check out those eye brows….and the map of Peninsular and East Malaysia on her cheeks…ai yo…
Eventually it came to her turn. After her teacher applied powder foundation all over her face, she refused to let her teacher continue….so i had to apply the additional make up on her face….. I had to come out with this cause the teacher kept saying “Not enough…need to put more make-up…”
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

The colours were the ones that the teacher provided because I didn’t bring my own make-up set. Oh I didn’t think that it would be so difficult applying lipstick on her lips

The 3 dancers….all ready to rock and roll!

For the record, I did doubt that Ashley would perform on stage. I thought she’d chicken out or freeze on stage but to my surprise, she hardly froze on stage and knew all of her moves! My FIl, MIL, Aidan, Tini (our maid) and I watched her perform in her first school concert except for her daddy - who had to attend a meeting on his daughter’s first ever school concert on a SATURDAY. Was I pissed? What do you think?
Anyway, bravo Ashley! You make us proud!

Looking forward to the year end holidays…
Posted on December 15, 2008
As like every year end, I so look forward to the year end holidays. My office will be closed from 22 Dec 2008 - 2 Jan 2009 and we are all expected to take compulsory leave. This will be the last week that I will be working before the year end holidays and I so can’t wait for Friday
So what are we going to do during the year end holidays? For starters, we’ll be spending Christmas at my parents’ place. We’d usually attend the Christmas eve mass and believe it or not, we arrive at church like a 3 hours before the mass starts so that we get a place to sit in the air-conditioned church. Pathetic? Well believe you me, we are not the only crazy people doing this. By the time we arrive at the church 3 hrs before the mass starts, the church would be 70% full. We’ve been doing this for as long as i can remember and I so dread the wait! On Christmas day, my parents would be busy preparing for the Christmas BBQ dinner party that they’d usually host every year and we’d stuff ourselves silly with my mom’s yummy cakes that she’d bake, roasted turkey, BBQed lamb (YummmM! with belacan!) and many other goodies. I hope that I don’t have to resort to diet pills after the year end holidays!
1 Dec 2008 - Aidan and Ashley (background) pottering about when we were setting up our Christmas tree….Notice Aidan’s right red eye….that’s the work of a mozzie! It created such a big bulge at the side of his eye until it distorted his eye. Poor fellow…Darn the mozzies!

Aidan is 1y 7m

Credits here.
At 1y 7m this lil taukeh of ours is getting cuter and cuter by the day.
Languange
His favourite word? Ma-mum for food. He can’t talk in sentences nor string a few words together. Some of the things he says are as follows :
- Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! - when he sees his daddy!
- Mommyyyyy! - he only calls out to me when he is distressed….!
- KakakkkkkK! - when he calls for Tini
- more - when he finish whatever that is on his plate or bowl, he’d carry the plate or bowl in both hands, pass to us the plate/bowl and say, “more!” - remind me of Oliver Twist asking for more food.
- jatuh - fall in Malay - he may have picked this up from Tini
- whoa whoa - imitating Sydney barking
- bump - when we drive over a bump, he’d say that..
- pong-pong - when he wants to take a shower.
Although the Lil Taukeh can’t talk much, he can understand us pretty well when we give him simple instructions when we ask him to :
- take something from the table
- throw something into the rubbish bin
- sit down before brushing his teeth
- call someone to help him to open a packet of biscuits
Music
He loves music.
When we put something on, especially Jazz music, he’d start to move his body. We’d usually turn on some JAzz music when we are having meals at the dining table. This lil fella will sway to the tune of the JAzz music while munching on his food.
Food Food Food!
He loves all kinds of food and is never full. His stomach is a bottomless pit (and I hope I won’t jinx this….)
Boys and Cars
He loves his toy cars and trains. Each time we go out, we make sure that we pack a bag of his toy cars and trains with us so that he can play with them at anytime when we are out.
Being a lil brother…
It’s not easy being a brother to Ashley. Ashley has her moods…..one moment she could be all lovey dovey and the next moment she could be like the wicked witch in Snow White. When Aidan grabs a toy from Ashley, Ashley would burst out crying and Aidan would just look at Ashley as though he was so amused by the effect he had on his sister. After a moment, he’d pass the toy back to Ashley (as though satisfied by witnessing Ashley’s outburst) and he’d go back to playing with other toys….
Lil Mr Koala
This Lil Taukeh is very attached to me. At nights, if he wakes up and doesn’t see me nearby, he’d cry and cry and cry until I come by to soothe him. I had to work at 3.30am on Sunday morning and Aidan woke up crying at 5.00am cause I wasn’t in the bedroom. I had to carry him to my office and carry him while I worked. He slept 1.5 hours later in my arms…..
Happy 1y 7m Aidan! *muaks!*

play date
Posted on December 5, 2008
On the 22 Nov 2008, Jazzmint , ZMM and I organized a playdate for the kids. ZMM invited her to her lovely house and we also had lunch over there. When we first arrived at their home, Ashley was quite shy and kept mum. Zara asked her,” Ashley? Why are you not smiling?” Unlike the last time they met, this time, it took Ashley awhile to warm up to Zara. Soon after, Jazzmint arrived with Faythe and Vyktore.
Zara’s birthday balloon which she was holding onto most of the time…..
Yummy lunch we had at ZMM’s house…
Jazzmint brought some donuts….
Ashley busy pottering about Zara & Zaria’s kitchen….
Zaria digging for toys…
Faythe looking out for fishies….
The Lil Hostess - who gave us a tour round her beautiful home….She showed me to her bedroom and was quick to tell me :
Zara : This is my bedroom. But I don’t sleep here. I sleep in my parents’ so that when i have nightmares at night, they can soothe me.
Those were her exact words, mind you…
Vyktore chilling out on the couch - drinking his susu and watching cartoon….
Zara & Ashley…

her pigtails…

Since Ashley started going to school 1.5 years ago, we’ve been trying to grow her hair long. I did give up at one point because she refused to let me tie her hair. As time passed, Ashley decided that she wanted to grow out her hair long like a ‘princess’. She said that she wanted to grow her hair until her bum-bum! A couple of days ago, she repeated her intentions again….
Ashley : Mommy, I want to grow my hair until (it reaches) my bum-bum
Mommy : Ok….
Ashley : What if I ng-ng and my hair ‘kena’ the ng-ng how? (ng-ng = poo)
Mommy : Eww..gross…
Ashley : Ya…gross right? (with a smile)
