lil miss sniffles….AGAIN!
Posted on August 31, 2006

Lil Missy is sniffling again *sigh*….a couple of days ago, she started sneezing more than usual and then her runny nose developed. I reckon it is due to the haze and dust from the construction near out house. Damn the haze. Damn the construction.
Grandma, Grandpa
My parents have been here for the last 3 weeks and will be going back to Sabah next weekend and then they’d come back to KL again after 2 weeks. I’m glad that they are here…at least we don’t have to drop/pick Ashley up at MIL’s place and Ashley gets to spend time with her Grandma and Grandpa from the Land Below the Wind.
Cold
One day, when Ashley woke up from her nap, she sat up in her cot, hugged herself and said, “cold” to my mom. My mom quickly covered with a blanket….
On a separate occasion, I let her sip some of my cold drink. From then, she refers to all cold drinks as ‘cold’.
Last night, I gave Ashley some wintermelon fruit which was fresh out of the refrigerator. She took a small bite, scrunged up her face and wiggled her body…..
Me : Why? Is it too cold?
Ashley : (Hugged herself) cold

bali…oh bali - day 3 & 4

Day 3 - (10 aug 06)

On the 3rd day of you bali trip, we hung around the streets of jln monkey forest (again) and this time spent sometime at the pasar ubud. The rest of the afternoon was spent at the villa. We lazed around to read our respective books on the day bed at the verandah of our villa whilst ashley was napping (phew)!
While at the verandah, we literally faced the forest. It’s nice during the day time - very peaceful and serene…but come night time, it was abit eerie - cause when we were in the room, we felt like we were being watched (since all the walls are glass walls).

ashley with daddy at the entrance of our villa

as you pass the main entrance of the villa, you’d need to walk down a couple of stairs to the villa itself. as you can see from the picture above, the bathroom is on the outside with an open concept. there’s a mini river running around the villa.

that’s the wc. yup…nothing beats doing your business in the open. took me awhile to get used to it…and not help wondering whether some punkster was peeping at me ….

the open-air shower….notice the bridge above the mini river….

this is the view from where i was lying down on the day-bed….
Part our package was a free 1-hr massage at the spa for 2. Since someone had to take care of Lil Missy, I opted to stay with her while Hubs get a 2-hr massage at the spa. The spa was located about 10 minutes away from our villa. Since our villa was on top of a hill, we had to walk downhill..on the way down, we passed…

a couple of paviilions like the one above used for massages sessions…

crossed the bridge over the river ….

and headed towards the spa…

while hubs was at the spa, lil missy and i toured around the villa….
day 4 (11 Aug 06)
While waiting for our pickup from the resort reception to the airport…..

Lil Missy busied herself by playing on the musical instrument on display….

Hubs dozed off by the couch at the lobby….
I must say “bravo” to lil missy for being such a good girl throughout the trip.

(9 Aug 06)

this is the entrance to the villa we stayed at at santi mandala…..

on day 2 of our trip, we decided to hang around at the streets of ubud. we started off with the Sacred Monkey Forest.

as the name suggests, there were, of course, loads of monkeys. in fact they were the main attraction. the weather was superb (very breezy) and when baby is happy, we’re happy. the hotel staff discouraged us from bringing the stroller because the streets of ubud is not exactly stroller friendly. so we lugged ashley using the baby sarong carrier most of the time.

daddy and ashley at the entrance of the Sacred Monkey Forest
after walking around the moneky forest, we decided to walk along the monkey forest street right up to the ubud market. the locals kept telling us that it was 15 mins away by foot. we took about 2 hours to walk to the end of the street because :
- some parts of the street was uphill
- we stopped by at alot of shops - bought lots of batik dresses for lil missy
- plus it wasn’t easy carrying the whole 10.2kg of lil missy

after spending 4 hours at ubud town, we headed to kuta…

at the infamous kuta beach….
we shopped a bit at the kuta market - nothing to shout about…our guide recommended us to buy the market stuff from the ubud market instead because things there are cheaper…
after kuta, we headed to Pura Luhur Uluwatu to catch the breathtaking view of the sunset. when we got there, we had to use the sarong and the ceremonial sash to ‘complete’ our dress code. we weren’t allowed to walk in the temple itself but managed to walk around the temple (the temple was fenced up). what was so interesting about the location of the temple was that it is located at the edge of a cliff, 200m+ above the indian ocean. the view from there was spectacular….

the background is the view of the cliff facing the indian ocean….

sunset from Pura Luhur Uluwatu
and of course….the temples are not complete without the presence of…..

after visiting the temple, we walked to the other side of the cliff to catch the Tarian Kecak.

notice the crowd on top of the cliff? that’s where the tarian kecak was held…

tarian kecak…
after that, we headed back to ubud to have our dinner at the infamous Bebek Benggil - (Dirty Duck Diner).

all i can say is…YUMMMMMY!!!!! anyone who goes to bali HAS to eat at the Bebek Benggil!…
and thoughout the whole day, ashley was one happy baby! (thank GOD!)

goooood morning ashley! (16 aug 06)
(8 aug 06)
after a long wait (i booked for our holiday 1 year ago), we finally set foot on bali for the very first time. just the 3 of us. hubs, ashley and i. since it was a holiday with lil missy, i (yes I and not WE since i was doing all the planning while hubs was busy with work work work…Blah!) decided that it should be a relaxing & fuss free holiday. i didn’t want to live where all the buzz were and decided on ubud (central bali) as our holiday destination. after surfing the internet for places to stay, we decided to stay at santi mandala villa & spa resort. it’s tucked discretely at a hillside, facing the tanagiri lake and the tropical forest and is 15 mins away from ubud town by car.

ashley checking out her own photo in her passport. she saw her picture and said, “bay bee (baby)”.
while we were at the airport, we kept telling ashley that we were going to board an airplane to go to bali. however, i don’t think she understood it all. nevertheless, she did well when we were airborne. travelling will never be the same for the next couple of years for us cause families with children get to board the plane first. yay! so there is absolutely no need to join the mad rush!

at the boarding hall at the LCC airport waiting for our plane to arrive (it was late….as usual…) ashley didn’t want to be carried by me and insisted on sitting on the chair next to hubs….what were they staring out at????
this…
day 1 of our trip was more of travelling than anything else. by the time we checked into our villa at santi mandala, it was already dark.

ashley obviously enjoyed all the space the king sized bed had to offer!

goooooooooood morning ashley! (2 aug 06)
i realised that lil missy’s installment of ‘good morning ashley’ photos are long overdue. the picture above was taken just before i gently plucked her out of bed to be brought into hub’s car (to be dropped of at mil’s).
since my last entry in this blog…
weight
10.2kg as of 14 aug 06
mmr
had her mmr jab on 14 aug 06. i noticed that this time, ashley was more aware of what she was visiting the paed for. as soon as she saw the needle, she was already tossing around on my lap. the doc decided to jab her on her bum so that she won’t be able to see him performing the injection on her. as soon as the paed wiped the area where he was going to jab her with the alcohol swab, ashley started to cry in my arms. and as soon as he injected the medicine into her, she cried so hard it broke my heart. on the bright side, she cried for less than a minute and she was all bright and cheery again. (thank God!)
bali..oh bali!
we had a swell time at bali. we just chilled. will blog about it later.
languange
ashley has picked up a couple of more words :
- ow (for owl)
- cold (and she’d hug herself to signify that she’s cold)
- kakak (referring to our part-time maid)
- wait
emotions
we discovered that she was actually embarrassed when we imitated how she cried. she’d smile until her eyes were like 2 slits on her face, cover her face with both hands, look down and bury her face in my chest.

14 months

gooooooooooooooood morning ashley!! (29 july 06)
never did i imagine that i’d be writing about ashley’s 14-months developments so soon. here goes…
weight : 9.7KGs
teeth : 4 on top and still 2 at the bottom
dexterity
- ashley can walk steadily
- she can even run - well not sprint but sort of break into a jog so to speak
- she can crawl up the stairs and when we hold both her hands, she tries to walk up the stairs like an adult
languange
she’s picking words really quickly…..
- quet - quiet
- woo -for dog
- yeow - for cat
- moo - for cow
- hi - for hello
- yeh-yeh - paternal grandfather
- mama - maternal grandmother
- arm ma - for grandma (my mom)
- arm pa - for grandpa (my dad)
- ma-meh - mommy (but she doesn’t voluntary calls me)
she’s also recognizing things really quickly. she knows how to point at stuff when we ask her to. for example, last weekend, hubs showed her the sports section of the newspaper and asked her where the balls were. she actually pointed at the football and tennis ball. other stuff she recognizes are :
- owl
- little bunny
- fox
- eagle
- fish
- ice cream - she’d say yum yum
- hat - she’d pat her head!
- body parts like : ear, eyes, nose, belly button, legs, hand, elbow, toes, head, knee
- bay-beh - for baby
she also understand simple commands like :
- come over to sit on our lap
- look for barney/toy/book/hand bag
emotions
tantrums - if she doesn’t get her way, she’d throw a tantrum but she is quick to calm down though - as least she hasn’t started throwing a fit for more than half a minute …. yet.
koala bear - she is more and more clingy to me. sometimes, it’d even come to the point where when i put her down so that she can stand on her own, she’d cling on to me so that her legs would not touch the ground. and if it did, she’d cry as though i’d abandoned her.
social butterfly
whenever she sees older kids at the mall, be it and girl or a boy, she’d call out,”kor-kor”. this is because her cousin bridget insists on calling her “kor-kor”. (*roll eyes*)
copy-cat
whenever ashley gets a hold of a bottle of hand cream, she’d ‘pour out’ the contents onto her palm, rub both her palms together and pretend to apply cream on her hands and face.
books
ashley has been very curious with books. she’d open any book and then pass the book to us by saying, ” nah nah” - to signal for us to read to her.
