ashley was so knackered 2 days ago when i picked her up from mil’s house after work…she slept all the way during the ride home….(25 july 06)
ashley : (looks down at her belly button and points to it..) there!
mommy : where’s mommy’s belly button?
ashley : (lifts my shirt and points to my belly button and says…) there!
mommy : L for lion…what does the lion do?
ashley : grrrrrr (growls and bend her fingers to sign for claws)
mommy : C for cat…what does the cat do?
ashley : yeow yeow yeow (meow meow meow)

if you’re happy and you know it…..

ashley’s got a “if you’re happy and you know it…” book. i’ve been reading it and acting it out for her for quite sometime now….this evening, she took the book and passed it to me,”nah nah.” - signal for me to read it to her….
mommy : if you’re happy and you know it clap your hands
ashley : (raises her hands and clap her hands)
mommy : hide away (covers both eyes)
ashley : (she’d cover both ears instead)
mommy : if you’re happy and you know it kick your legs (lie down on back and kick both legs in the air)
ashley : (lies down on her back and kick both legs in the air)
mommy : if you’re happy and you know it roll about (lie down on back and roll from side to side)
ashley : (lies down on her back and rolls from side to side)
mommy : clever girl!!!
and she enjoyed it as much as i did watching her do all the actions.
i’ve been pretty slack in following up with my ‘good morning ashley’ series of photos and it’s only because hubs has to go to work earlier these days and therefore ashley too has to leave the house early so that hubs can drop her off at mil’s house. there’s isn’t any good natural lighting in the mornings before 8am and thus i’ve not been snapping pictures of ashley in the mornings. plus the fact that she keeps moving around and i can’t seem to take a decent picture of her these days unlike before….however…here’s another installment of the ‘good morning ashley’ pictures…
this was taken just before i had to wake her up (i hate having to wake her up from her blissful sleep…) (25 july 06)
as soon as she wakes up, she’d gulp down at least 4oz of warm water every morning….
after changing her diaper and brushing her teeth, she’d be more awake and would be good to go….

gooooooooooooooooood morning ashley! (23 july06)
we let ashley choose the books she wants us to read to her. sometimes, even without asking, she’d pick a book up, open it, then walk towards us with the book in her out-stretched hand and she’d say,” nah ..nah” - her signal for us to read the book to her.
when she saw the page full of stars, she said,”tar (star)” and raised both her hands up in the air and repeatedly opened and closed her hands (sign for star).
she’d even clap when reading her book
when we show her a picture of an ice cream, she’d say,”yum yum”
when we show her a picture of hats, she’d pat her head!

lil miss tempremental

gooooood morning ashley!!!! (14 july 06)
ashley’s still down with a bad flu and cough. so far, this flu and cough episode is the worst. she has so much phlegm in her throat - i swear she sounds like an old lady when she coughs.
not keen with milk
for the past few days, she hasn’t been too keen with her milk. i hope that it’s just a phase that she is going through as she never refused to drink her milk before this. however, she’d gladly accept water or any other food that we give to her. when we offer her milk, she’d brush the bottle away from her sight with one wave of her right arm and shake her head (signal for no).
nah
ashley says,”nah” these days when she wants to pass something to us. last week, she got a hold of my wallet and slowly took out the contents of my wallet and laid it on the bed. then she started handing over my ringgit notes to me - one by one.
ashley : (takes one note and passes it to me) nah
mommy : thank you!
ashley : (takes another note and passes it to me) nah
mommy : thank you!
and this goes on and on until she had no more notes to pass to me. then she took all the notes from me and started to pass them to me one by one again!
brochure
this evening, ashley got a hold of the ‘mommy and baby’ bag of goodies (the ones which the nurses at the hospital pass to all mothers after they give have given birth). ashley was emptying the bag which was full of brochures and spent extra time looking at a particular brochure with a picture of a mother and baby on it. i realised that she was staring at it and….
mommy : ashley…pass the brochure to me. mommy will read it to you
ashley : (she looked up, stretched her hand (with the brochure) out and walked up to me and sat on my lap)
mommy : see..the baby is lying down and his mommy is looking at him…..
ashley : (lies down on the floor to imitate the baby in the brochure)
mommy : (jaw dropped!)
ashley : clever girl ashley! you’re lying down like the baby (pointing to baby in the brochure)
mommy : (points to another picture) ashley, look at the baby…the baby is stretching. how do you stretch?
ashley : (put both hands above her head and stretched)
mommy : clever girl!
bath
recently, i’ve given up drawing a bath for ashley. it’s just too much work. i’d usually fill her bath tub with luke warm water and give her a bath on the dining table. now that she can walk and stand firmly….she bathes with mommy! ahhh…it’s just so much easier that way! and we have a good time all the time because she’d play with her bathtime toys.
‘go way!’
recently, i noticed ashley say,”go way”. at first i thought it was a fluke shot. and then i heard it again twice after that and i was dead certain that she said,”go way (go away)”. there could only be 3 possibilities in which she could have picked it up :
1. hubs or me telling sydney to ‘go away’
2. mil telling cousin bridget to ‘go away’
3. cousin bridget telling ashley to ‘go away’
whatever it is, i am not too pleased that she picked this up.

these weekdays, if i get home early, i’d make sure that ashley gets to hang around outside the house with sydney - just for fun.

Pirates of the Carribean II

my department decided to give us and our families a treat by booking 1 GSC cinema hall for us to watch Pirates of the Carribean. so last week was our very first time watching a movie in a cinema with lil missy. since the movie was at 9pm, i was pretty confident that she would fall asleep during the movie. and true enough, 15 minutes into the movie, lil missy was in dreamland and never woke up till the next morning. yee ha!
not-so-lil miss sniffles
i thought ashley has recovered from her flu and cough but no….. it has come back to haunt her yet again. she hasn’t been able to sleep properly. she kept shifting her position in bed and kept waking up in the middle of the night and so we resorted to let her sleep in between us. if we had a penny for every kick in our face for the last 2 nights, i’d say we would be rich by now.
first hair cut
we decided to give ashley her first hair cut ever last weekend. unfortunately i didn’t manage to video her while the hairdresser was cutting her hair because i was also getting my hair done at the same time! that would have been a precious moment to catch considering it was her first ever hair cut in her life.

quiet!

check out lil missy’s frown….notice the basket of toys behind her….i had to use 2 of them to block her from going into the kitchen area….
sydney : woof! woof! woof!
ashley : qwet! (quiet)
mommy : (shocked!)
i thought it was just a fluke shot that ashley said,”quiet” to sydney….and then it happened again…
sydney : woof! woof! woof!
ashley : qwet! (quiet)
mommy : (my suspicion has been confirmed. ashley prolly heard us say “quiet” to sydney whenever sydney made too much noise.
we realized that we got to start disciplining lil missy after 13.5 months! i read is somewhere that after they reach their 1 year birthday, it was about the right time to start to enforce some discipline in these newly graduated toddlers…..this was my attempt at it..
ashley : (tried to touch the plug-point)
mommy : (lightly slapped her hand away) no ashley! you can’t touch that. it’s dangerous.
ashley : (giggles and tried to touch the plug-point again!)
mommy : ( lightly slapped her hand away) no ashley!
lil missy thought i was playing with her!…and then i didn’t have the heart to put more force in my voice and i scooted her away and distracted her with something else…*SIGH*

ashley & sydney

gooood morning ashley! notice sydney at the background. in the mornings, i have to phsycho ashley to sit in her car seat by distracting her with sydney…otherwise she’d bawl!
lil missy wasn’t too pleased to be plonked on her car seat this morning….
of late, i’ve been putting ashley and sydney together so that they’d both get used to having each other around. before ashley, sydney was our no. 1 baby. she was more like a house-dog than a guard dog. she’d stay in our house and even sleep in our room.
in the mornings, if we were to peep from our bed, we’d notice that sydney will already be awake but she’d be snugly lying down at her corner of the room. if she sensed that we are awake, she’d jump and place her two fore legs on the bed and use her paw to repeatedly nudge either of us until we get out of bed. this was because she had to pee and we had to bring her out of the house.
after the birth of ashley, sydney had to rough-it-out and stay outside of the house 24×7. from the moment we brought ashley home from the hospital, sydney sensed somehow that she was not going to get the primary attention from us anymore. sydney was moody during the first week we brought ashley home from the hospital.
today, ashley and sydney play like buddies. best pals.

ashley was pretty moddy after i snapped this picture of her at starbucks. she started to cry a second later cause she was sleepy…

she not only points at stuff now, she’d exclaim, “there!” at the same time…
dancing queen
we attended ashley’s cousin nicole’s 1 year birthday party at McDonald’s last weekend. ashley couldn’t help dancing to the beat of the music….
tantrums
these days, if ashley doesn’t get what she wants or if we take something away from her, she’d sit on the spot and start crying! thankfully she forgets really quickly when we distract her with something else….
when ashley’s on my lap when i am using my notebook, she’d remove both my hands away from the key pad so that she can have it all to herself. if i attempt to type, she’d throw a tantrum!…
pneumococal meningitis
we brought ashley to her paed to get the vaccination for pneumococal meningitis on monday night. she didn’t cry when the needle was in her arm but cried so hard when the doc injected the vaccination into her. poor baby!
grandma, grandpa
last week, ashley surprised me by picking up a picture of my parents and barely said,
“armmm ma! (grandma), armmm pa! (grandpa).”
i quickly took out my phone and asked her to repeat it while i captured the moment on the video function on my phone. i sent the video over to my parents via mms and needless to say, they were ecstatic…
run away….
when ashley knows that we saw her taking something which she isn’t supposed to take, she’d run away from us so that we can’t take it away from her!
masak-masak
we had dinner at american chilli’s last week and since kid’s food was free, we ordered pasta for ashley. at first we fed her with a spoon. then we gave up and let her feed herself with her bare hands so that she can feed herself at her own pace while we enjoy our meal. after awhile, she started playing masak-masak (malay for cooking) with her food…

i like this picture of ashley and sydney….it looked as though ashley had something to say to sydney and sydney’s just sitting there listening like a good dog….
i’ve only recently let ashley walk on her own when she is at the porch with sydney. my fear was that sydney may be too rough for ashley. surprisingly though, with all the licking and nudging sydney has been giving to ashley, ashley is not afraid of sydney.

we finally applied for a passport for ashley for our upcoming trip to bali which is a month away.. we were pleasantly surprised with our experience at the immigration office….
- there were special counters for kids
- and we were out of the place in 45 minutes (shorter than we expected)
fuss-free day
surprisingly, ashley had no qualms in sitting in her car seat today. she was all cheery and jolly…prolly because she knew that she would be with her parents the whole day and not get dropped off at mil’s for the whole day and only see us in the evening???

we finally got the mozzie nets fixed in our home…they actually looked better than i thought..in fact they are hardly noticeable. phew.
‘thanks’ to the mozzies, ashley’s got mozzie bite marks all over her legs….they’re indeed viscous over at my neck of the woods….

last night, ashley grabbed hold of hub’s car keys and attempted to open the main door…..she could even pose for a picture!

lil miss copy cat
last night, as i was applying moisturizer on my face, ashley imitated me by rubbing both her palms together and pat her cheeks!
trying to blend in….
for the past few weeks, ashley had shown interest in blending in into our conversation. while we were at ashley’s god father’s house for a dinner party, ashley laughed and giggled each time someone laughed - as though she was trying to blend in….
improvise
i think that due to my random absence, ashley had improvised on how to get herself to sleep. she’d automatically suck her right thumb and :-
- lie forward on a pillow to sleep
- and has attempted to lie on grandpa’s head to sleep like this…
last night, i placed ashley in her cot hoping that she would doze off on her own. unfortunately after playing with her toys in her cot, she didn’t want to doze off on her own. therefore, since the cot is right next to our bed, i laid on our bed next to her cot so that ashley could feel the edges of my hair with her left hand through the cot bars while she sucked on her right thumb. it looked like a sorry sight indeed but that was the only way we could fall asleep together - she in her own cot, hubs and i on our bed.
