in a days time, grandma and grandpa will be in town to celebrate ashley’s very FIRST birthday.
in 2 days time, it’d be ashley’s first birthday!
in 3 days time, it’d be ashley’s very first birthday party!

exactly one year ago…i was :
- sick of people asking me when i’d be popping
- i was busy making the love quilt with my mom
- very exhausted by walking from the ikano car park to uncle lim’s for lunch and suffered several leg cramps
- on leave the week before the 2nd june 05
- excited by the fact that in 2 days time, we were going to have a new addition to the family
- scared by the fact that it’d be my first time going through the birthing experience

although we tried our best to prepare for the birth of ashley, none of us were prepared for the immense joy that ashley had brought into our lives.

lil miss lilo….

aunt carol bought her that batik dress and she reminded me of lilo (of lilo and stitch)..

cry baby
last saturday, i had to run some errands with ashley in tow. the minute i placed her in her car seat, she cried as though there was no tomorrow. so i thought she’d cry until she got the hint that mommy will not be coming to her rescue (since i was driving and all). when i reached my destination (15 mins away), she hadn’t stopped crying until i unstrapped her from her car seat and carried her in my arms. she immediately hushed and acted as though nothing had happened. see that’s what i like about babies - they don’t hold grudges on their parents *wink*……

anyway i did what i had to do, and then before shooting off, i strapped her onto her car seat again and then she started to cry…AGAIN! and she cried and cried and cried away and i was convinced after 5 solid minutes of crying that she wasn’t going to like me very much. so i had no choice…i had to stop somewhere to soothe her (she hadn’t slept the whole morning and was cranky)…..so we stopped by uncle simon’s house….

while we were there, ashley was being entertained by uncle simon’s 2 labs, rumie (sydney’s sister…really!) and sam.

after an hour, ashley dozed off and i thought it’d be a great idea to gently put her in her car seat and drive home….but ho! she woke up and cried as soon as she realized she was back in the car seat and cried during the entire 15 min journey home! *sigh*

peekaboo i see you!

goooooooooood morning ashley (23 may 06)ashley’s an expert in playing peekaboo these days. this is a video of her, in her car seat playing peekaboo with me with the baby sling and towards the end, she places her right hand to her ear and says “a whoa” (hello).

11 months 3 weeks old - 1 more week to toddlerhood!

1 week to her 1st birthday
in a week’s time, our little baby will officially no longer be a baby but a toddler. i’ve yet to accept the fact that our baby is growing up so quickly. i still remember the day i gave birth to ashley - it’s as though it happened yesterday. the memories are ever so fresh in my head!

i’m happy that ashley is what she is today - healthy, sweet, cute, ever so lovable, you name it. but somewhere buried deeeep in my heart is a slight reluctance of ashley’s graduation toddler-hood. soon, i’d be the one suffering from separation anxiety especially when she gradually does not need mommy or daddy anymore…

up and down the step by the doorway
recently, lil missy had been very fascinated by the step by the doorway. she’d cross the doorway for 10 - 15 mins - non-stop. check her out in action.

wake up and ‘woof’
at nights, i’d usually carry ashley to sleep. she’d be in her usual position - leaning her whole body on me, sucking her right thumb while fiddling with the edge of a bunch of my hair with her 4th and 5th fingers of her right hand, eyes closed. on several occasions, sydney barked while ashley was half asleep. ashley would immediately open her eyes, sit up on my lap and say ‘woof woof’ to immitate sydney. and when sydney stopped barking, she leaned on me and went back to sleep.

handbag
this evening, when i went over to mil’s house to pick ashley up, ashley was walking around the house holding mil’s handbag in one hand!! she was so happy to carry the bag.

bye bye
while at mil’s house, mil and my sil were by the main door. ashley immediately raised her hand and waved ‘bye-bye’ without us initiating the ‘bye-bye’ wave.

this evening, while driving back home after picking ashley up from mil’s house, ashley was busy removing the contents of my hand bag one-by-one! she continued to empty my bag until she found something which was worthy of her attention.

this morning….

this was taken this morning before i brought her downstairs to Hubs’ car to be scooted off to mil’s house. she loves to climb up on the pillows, face the wall and repeatedly slap the wall with her palms. she gets a kick out of it. she turned round to look at Hubs.

she was amused by what Hubs had to say to her this morning…love that smile of hers especially when her pearly whites are peeking out.

every morning, i’d bring ashley to hubs’ car even before he finishes getting dressed so that i can spend some quality time with her and we won’t have to rush as hubs’ leaves the house before me. so by the time hubs is ready to leave, he’d pop into the car and drive off to drop ashley at mil’s house.

this is sydney, our pet labrador retriever. she’s a darling. she’d accompany us every morning by the car door while ashley and i wait for hubs.

we went for mass yesterday evening and so far, ashley has been the most of active during yesterday’s mass. she’d usually entertain herself by looking around etc. yesterday she wanted MORE. since we had the whole row to ourselves, she insisted on walking up and down the row of chairs and if Hubs were to sit in her path, she’d grunt and whine to signal for him to get out of the way!

grease, the musical

gooooood morning ashley!!! (18 may 06)

on thursday night, we watched Grease (the musical). yes, we brought ashley along. i loved the movie when i watched it when i was a kid. but the musical that we watched last week was sadly sooooooo boooooorrrring! there were lbasically lots of yakking, and the singing wasn’t to die for. the beginning of the show (where they got some people from the audience to come up to the stage to dance) was probably the most interesting bit of the night. yes, it was that sad.

ashley was very lively during the first 1/2 hour. she’d
- play with uncle mark and aunt vicky who were sitting next to us
- stand up on the chair, face the back and play with the person sitting behind me
- clap her hands when everyone clapped their hands

then…..she became restless. (den den dennn…) (OMG!!) tired. sleepy. fussy. i tried to carry her in different positions but none seemed to satisfy her. she started whining and crying BIG time during the show!!! i must admit that it was my very first time feeling so frustrated. i thought of asking Hubs to carry her outside but held the thought cause i knew that she’d throw a bigger fuss if it wasn’t me who carried her out. so i climbed over the seat in front of us (empty) and carried her to the side of the theatre. thankfully, she stopped her whining and crying when i stood up to carry her. i ended up having to sit by the empty seat at the side of the theatre throughout the musical away from Hubs and our friends. ashley slept throughout the 2nd half of the musical. i too almost dozed off.

first steps

goooood morning ashley! (16 may 06)
notice her left hand in the picture on the right. that’s her “hello” pose mimicking us on the handphone!

my dad claimed that ashley had already taken her first few steps last week when he was babysitting her. however, being a busy working mom that i am (*sob*), i obviously missed her first step! this evening, i managed to coax ashley into walking a few steps. this wasn’t easy because she was whinnnnnning while at it…

why was she whining?

i dangled her new pair of shoe a few feet in front of her. as you can tell from the video, she was very upset that i didn’t give the shoe to her any sooner!

remote control
as like other babies, ashley loves the remote control. she’d hold the remote control and stretch her hand towards the tele (to change the channel).

press and go
i’ve no clue what’s ashley’s obsession with the dvd player. perhaps it’s the led lights or the numerous buttons/dials on the player. beats me.
this evening, she pressed a button and immediately turned her back on the player and waited for what would happen. and then she’d turn towards the player again, pressed another button and then turn her back towards the player and waited for what would happen next. each time she pressed a button, a different CD was played because she pressed the cd changer button!

lil miss sniffles

this is lil missy, this morning, before i woke her up. 3 things which comes to my mind each time i look at her asleep in her cot :

1. she’s such a big girl already!

2. she looks so serene when she’s asleep and i feel soooo guilty to have to wake her up on weekday mornings (that is if she doesn’t wake up on her own when it’s time to leave for mil’s house…)

3. can’t believe she’s our daughter!

poor ashley has a flu and cough! she’s got a blocked nose (again) and a hacking cough! and is teary-eyed due to the flu!

my parents flew back home on sunday, mother’s day. the day that lil missy fell ill. so you can imagine their reluctance in parting with a teary-eyed baby!

it’s my very first mother’s day this year.
it’s the day that ashley fell ill.
…the day grandma and grandpa flew back to sabah (but they’ll be back 2 week’s time for ashley’s birthday.
we sorta celebrated mother’s day with a bunch of friends over brunch at la bodega , bangsar. (the big breakfast set is absolutely yummylicious!)

11-month development spurts

these days, i gotta distract her with something to take her “Good Morning Ashley” shots….here’s an example of the stuff i pass to her in hopes that she’d look up at the camera!

it’s amazing how ashley has developed in her 11 month. she is suddenly picking up soooo quickly!

“clap your feet!”
mommy : if you’re happy and you know it clap your feet…
ashley : (while lying down, she’d hold both her ankles and bring her feet together.)

hello!
she knows how to put her hand to her ear (as though using the mobile phone) and say, “ooow” for hello. Check her out.

i was wiping the dust off our tv cabinet this morning and lil missy imitated me by wiping her cot rails with her hanky!

grandpa repeatly said the alphabet “A” to ashley and she finally said “A”. she hasn’t gone on to say “B” yet though…

2 more pearly whites!
i meant to mention this earlier on - ashley’s got 2 more upper pearly whites…which means she has 6 teeth now…. she looks cute with teeth!

she was so excited she wanted to devour the menu!

we forgot to bring the stroller out last weekend (BIG mistake) and decided to place her in the basket while we walked around ikea….
