got fever, got wheels & one puzzled mom

sick kiddos on the roll
It seems that a few of the mommy blogger’s kiddos (Zara, Faythe, Yee Ching)had fallen sick. On sunday, after Ashley got her jab she had a slight fever at night and so we gave her the fever medicine which the Dr prescribed to her. Yesterday, she was fussy all day! She had a mild fever the whole day and had lost her appetite to eat. Instead of the usual 3 solid-food meals, she had only 2. Instead of drinking milk 4 times a day, she had only 3. When I came back from the office yesterday evening, she looked tired. Grandma was carrying her. When I reached out to carry Ashley, she cried her “manja” cry for 2 seconds and then she just rested her head on my shoulder with her thumb in her mouth. By late night, she was back to herself again, laughing even! This morning, she was doing fine. *sigh*…Thank GOD!
got wheels
finally as of saturday, I am mobile again and “mommy’s taxi” is being re-commissioned again!:) Thankfully my parents are here so we don’t have to drop Ashley off at MIL’s place every morning. This arrangement lets her sleep in longer in the mornings.
solids
I am puzzled. This is normally how we feed Ashley…
- at 8:30am, 1:00pm and 5:30pm - Feed Ashley half a Milna Rusk mashed up with milk and then we proceed to feed her her milk (all 6.5 oz of them) and she’d gulp it down!
- 10:30pm (which is her last feed) we’d only give her her milk
There is no gap between eating solids and drinking milk. Is this the norm? How do you mommies out there feed your babies?

she didn’t cry this time…
Posted on November 27, 2005

Good morning Ashley! (taken this morning, 27 nov 05)
It was time for Ashley’s shot again (for whooping cough, diptheria, etc etc can’t remember the rest) and thankfully, Ashley didn’t cry one bit! *phew*… Anyhow, the boil under her left armpit is giving abit of a problem now…. It was initially cured….and somehow…it has now resurfaced! Luckily the dr didn’t have to prick the boil again….dr gave us some anti-biotic cream to apply on the boil itself. Hopefully it’d go away cause it is at a difficult spot i.e. spot-on on her armpit! poor ashley!
Bloody mozzies have not given Ashley a break. She has 2 new mozzie bites on her leg! ARGH!!!!!! They’re huge and red! I’ve been rather kiasu! - I stick the mozzie patch on her cot every day and have the mozzie mat on all the time next to her cot. Looks like we may have to resort to fixing mozzie nets on our grills soon!…ARGH! I hate them.

weeee! Ashley being weighed at Dr Lee’s. check out the black marks on her left elbow - traces of the bloody mozzie bites!

our bundle of joy is 7.8kgs! Dr Lee says that she is over-weight! uh ohhh! have to cut down already…

Was feeding Ashley this afternoon - notice how both her tiny hands are grabbing onto my fingers while she gulps down the milk…

Happy 62nd Birthday, Grandpa!
Posted on November 26, 2005
We celebrated grandpa’s birthday on Wednesday night by having dinner at The Boathouse, TTDI. The food was so-so but the ambience was just nice for a peaceful family gathering. According to Grandpa, it was a double bonus for him on his birthday cause :
1. It was his first birthday as a first-time grandad to Ashley
2. My sister Carol and Ryan were getting married in Dec 05

Mommy was having fun scribbling on the table with the crayons…soon Ashley will be the one who’d be scribbling…

apparently it was the brown rice cereal….
Posted on November 25, 2005
My mom gave her the Dumex rice cereal (not the brown rice ones) and she was doing fine yesterday! No more diarrhea! *phew*
All this while, when we sang “Twinkle twinkle little stars..” rhyme to her, we’d open and close our hands to mimick twinkling stars. Only this week did she started to catch on and tried to do the same by opening and closing her hands really slowly…
Lately, she has also been very curious with the food that we eat! My dad let her taste a drop of melted ice cream last night and she loved it and kept staring at the ice cream!!!
We had dinner at the Boathouse Restaurant at TTDI a couple of nights ago to celebrate Grandpa’s birthday. The restaurant had white paper covering the tables instead of a table cloth and provided a bunch of crayons for kids to scribble on the table. Anyway, Ashley was literally on everyone’s lap at one point in time and when she faced the table, she grabbed the paper and constantly pulled it so that she can stuff it in her mouth!!!

teething???
Posted on November 24, 2005
Since Monday, Ashley has been having diarrhea at least 2 - 3 times a day! It got me worried but my parents said that it’s normal for a baby who’s teething. She does not have fever or anything…some say that teething can cause loose stools due to all the extra saliva but not real diarrhea…so the question is how can you tell the difference between a real and a not-real diarrhea??? Another change which started this week as well was that we started to give her the brown rice Milna rusk (as opposed to the normal white rice one) - so dunno whether she consumed too much roughage or not…. my mom is going to give her another type of rice cereal today to see whether it was the brown rice cereal which caused her to have diarrhea or not. I guess it’s all a but trial and error when looking after a baby….My MIL touched Ashley’s lower gums and reckoned that Ashley’s teething. Other signs which we think she’s teething are :
1. drooling - she’s drooling like a drool machine
2. she like to bite on stuff - so we give her those teethers to bite on
3. when we stick our finger wrapped in a cloth into her mouth to clean her tongue, she’d bite real hard on our finger!
4. Some say that her cheeks will be fuller due to the swollen gums. Swollen gums or not..she still has those “cha siew pao” cheeks!

Grandma, Grandpa
Posted on November 22, 2005
So my parents arrived on Sunday night. The first thing my dad did was NOT carry the bags into the house but he walked right up to the door where I was carrying Ashley in my arms, looked at Ashley, smiled at her, called her name and then gestured to carry her. Less than 30 seconds later, Ashley’s mouth curved upwards and waaaaiiiLLLED the living daylights outta her! Big tears were rolling down her chubby-chub cheeks and my dad quickly passed her back to me. You can imagine how upset my dad was. He had been waiting almost 2 months to see her again (since the last time he was here) and when the time actually came, Ashley cried. So I had to soothe her. Ooo….the cry was LLOOUDDD. Hubby and I used to joke to ourselves that when Ashley leashes out that kinda cry, the “victim” has experienced the wrrraaattth of Ashley. LOL! Ashley reacted the same when she looked at my mom. Funny thing. Ashley has been ok with strangers carrying her all this while. So we reckoned that during that night she was sleepy and hungry because it was about 10pm then. Bad combo. Bad combo.
The next morning, fortunately…., Ashley was ok with my parents. After a good night’s sleep, she woke up with a smile
(*PHEW*) Like it or not, she had to get used to my parents looking after her while we’re at work. So now that my dad has upgraded his phone to a camera phone, he has been taking MMS pics of her and sending them over to me while I’m at work!

our tree is up and this’ll be ashley’s first christmas!
Posted on November 20, 2005

Our Christmas tree is finally up! Ashley was beside me on her bouncer while I was setting the tree up. However, she wasn’t as fascinated as I would have imagined - with the tree decorated and lit up beautifully…..in fact she was more interested in the toys which was dangling down from the bar above her which was attached to the frame of the bouncer.

These pictures were taken this morning. She was more interested in the camera strap which dangled from the side of my camera. In the second picture, she was trying to stuff the strap into her mouth while looking at daddy.

“Good Morning Ashley” photos taken this morning.
p.s. that bib on her reminds me of a cowgirl/boy.
Grandma and Grandpa (my parents) are arriving from Sabah this evening ….so for the next 3 weeks +, Ashley will get to sleep in during weekday mornings without being interrupted by us plucking her out of the bed and skooting her into the car to be dropped off at MIL’s house. She’s going to be spoiled rotten by Grandma and Grandpa - who are making up for lost time!

what a busy saturday morning

very mean-looking mozzie bites!
So my parents will be arriving tomorrow to stay with us for a couple of weeks to attend my sister’s wedding and also ….not to forget..to gain mileage on their grand daughter whom they have missed ever sooo dearly for the past 1.5 months +. So I’ve been busy doing a week’s worth of laundry! (argh..it’s not fun), have been busy preparing the guest room in which my parents will sleep in, cleared out the fridge (cause when they come, they come with a BANG! with lots of frozen home-cooked food from home as though we don’t have food over here) made with lots of love!
Early this week, Ashley got bitten by mozzies! I placed her in the cot in my bedroom, went to the bathroom for 10 minutes, and when I came out, she had 2 mozzie bites on each arm! (big bad mommy!)

An expert in reaching out ang grabbing at stuff!

clockwise starting from the top left picture - Ashley was trying to reach out for her toy and ended up turning her body….she was so wiggly as well - like a little worm.
p.s it’s not easy blogging with Ashley in one arm and typing with the free hand! she insists on being carried..

This pair of shoe which she received as a gift from Aunt Hanny has now been placed back into its box. Anyway I did let her wear the shoe each time we went out until she outgrew it…what a shame….
