what i stare into everyday

I am a WFH mom. When working remotely, it’s important that I have
-
A broadband connection so that I can connect to my company’s VPN to work
-
I have a reliable laptop
Our laptop usually gets refreshed every 3 years with a brand new one.
Recently, our IT dept has come up with a policy that employees with laptops that’s 3yo and above will be put in a queue for the employee’s PC refresh program.
if you’re lucky, you get your laptop just right after your 3 year laptop warranty expires. If you’re not, like me, you got to wait it out until you get THE email from IT stating that you can now get your laptop replaced with a new one. I waited for about 3-4 months after the 3 year mark before I got a new one. At that time, I couldn’t bear how slow my old laptop was then. It was practically crawling.
Today, I have a brand new one which is more powerful. It makes working much easier and because it is powerful, I am more efficient and productive

This is me!

what they’ve been doing during the holidays…
Posted on June 8, 2010

The kids are on a 2 week break which started yesterday. Today is day 2 and I think the kids needs to somehow channel all that energy positively - somehow. Why? Cause they’ve been :
- Playing Pretend. Ashley would usually be the commanding mother who’d command Aidan to do this that and the other. Where did she pick that up from? me?
- They’ve been down the rodeo path. One would be the horse and the other will sit on his/her back and slap the horsey’s bum-bum and off they go……! Yee ha!
- They’d also pretend to be at school. Ashley would be the teacher and Aidan - the naughty student who can’t pay attention for more than 2 minutes (which drives Ashle nuts!!!)
- They’ve also pretended to go shopping! They ransacked my books from the shelves, chucked them into thei bags and walked round the house.
I’m not saying what they’re doing is not good. They’re just kids being kids.
But I have a plan for day 3 and hopefully it’d work!

it’s not fun if you don’t get to see your kids having fun

1 Mar 2010 - The kid having fun at the pool with Grandpa
When my parents are in town, everyone’s happy.
We are well taken care of in terms of food (mom cooks yummy dishes!).
The kids get to play with their grandparents for a change.
Ashley complained to me the other day that i didn’t allow her to swim in the pool as long as Grandpa. Tough. My response? “Am I grandpa? No. I am Mommy.”
Tough love.

One of the advantages of being a work-from-home mom for an MNC company is that I can work from anywhere as long as there is an internet connection and I am contactable by phone (and OF COURSE as long as my objectives are met, my assignments are completed on time). So one sunny afternoon, I didn’t want to miss seeing the kids having fun at the pool with their grandpa so I decided to work from the poolside. (Yes there was an internet connection).
Indeed, it’d not fun if you don’t get to see your kids having fun.
So my office furniture that afternoon were the poolside table and chair
Nice!

16 Feb 2010 - The kids under the glass coffee table. Kids….they find thrills in the slightess things. As the Kadazans would put it - tagas!
2 weeks ago, I fell badly! I fell down the freaking staircase in my house! I was working in my study room located on the 2nd floor and Aidan suddenly cried out as though he was in pain. So i rushed out of my studyroom and ran down the staircase. I slipped on a wet patch on the stairs and landed 6-7 stairs later on my left butt followed by my left elbow. The pain was sooooo $#%^ intense on my left butt and my left shoulder! My elbow was fine cause that’s like the hardest part of the body i suppose but my left shoulder suffered from the impact from the elbow. Luckily the pain on my shoulder was gone after 4-5 days otherwise I would have to look around for joint pain remedies. Because my left butt landed on the edge of the staircase, that left me with a HUGEEEEEE blue-blacktill today!
Why was there a wet patch on the staircase? It was raining and the roof above the stairs was leaking!
Thank God I wasn’t preggers.
Thank God I didn’t land on my tail bone or spine.
Thank God it happened to me and not the kids!

stuck on you

1 Mar 2010 - Aidan and Grandpa - having fun at the pool. Looks like Grandpa has to resort to glucomannan perhaps? because he didn’t get a chance to swim in the pool. Aidan was stuck to him like a koala bear!
I mentioned before in one of my Facebook shoutouts that my night conference calls are always jinxed with Aidan crying for mommmmyyy! ..and it happened again last night. My conference call started at 11.00pm and lasted for 1.5 hours. In the middle of the call, Aidan woke up, noticed that I wasn’t next to him and started crying out for mmommmmyyyy! Hubs couldn’t pacify him although he was lying down next to Aidan. After about 15 minutes of crying, I couldn’t stand it any longer. I went into the room and scooped him up into my arms. His cries immediately subsided and stopped within the minute. I had to sit him on my lap while I sat in front of my computer with my headset on - trying to focus on the conference call (luckily I wasn’t hosting the conference call). After a minute, I asked him whether he wanted to lie down to which he nodded his sleepy head and I placed him down on the mattress (I have a spare mattress in my study room for moments like these when the kids just want to me with me while I work). He slept like a baby after that - knowing that he was in the same room as me.
I admit I did feel abit inconvenienced at that moment.
Talk about bad timing.
But after taking a step back, I am glad that he still wants his mommy
I dread the day when he will push me away when I try to hug or kiss him in front of his schoolmates.

green shopping
Posted on March 16, 2010

16 Feb 2010 - Aidan, looking annoyed because I asked him to look up to smile at the camera while he was concentrating on his cars.
I did mention earlier on sometime back that I am into online shopping. I work from home and only go out during the weekends to get whatever that we need. Hence the idea of online shopping is so darn appealing to me! I have done my fair share of online shopping - and I still do! But now, there is even more justification to do online shopping because it’s now considered ‘green’ to do online shopping. By doing online shopping, you’re actually green shopping - doing your part to reduce your carbon footprint on this earth that we temprorarily live in. So it’s a good start in doing our part in going green for your future generations dontcha think?
Next is get eco-friendly products by green shopping.

16 Feb 2010 - Picture is a bit blur but I love how happy Ashley and Nicole looked together!

16 Feb 2010 - The Cousins - so happy to be able to get together during our Chinese New Year gathering. When these 4 get together, they’d play like there is no tomorrow. They’d be bursting with energy and laughter - the things that they do together are natural fat burner in itself. That’s why these kids are lean-mean machines. (Although some beg to differ when it comes to Aidan.)
…for my healthy kids.
..to be able to work from home and spend time with the kids.
..to be able to have the means to provide for the kids.
…to be given the chance by God to have the kids enrich our lives.
….for my kids.
Count your blessings everyday! Life is too short and fragile.
Live in the moment and leave no room for regrets.
I’m not perfect. I forget sometimes. But I try as hard as I can. Everyday.

when you grow up…
Posted on January 26, 2010

14 Jan 10 - Cousin Nicole and Ashley - having fun at the playground.
…what would you like to be? I asked Ashley that question sometime back and she replied….
Ashley : I want to work on the computer like you, from home
Then I asked her what she thought I was doing, working on the computer and she replied,
Ashley : Work on the computer la (and she moved her fingers and pretended to type on a keyboard) and I work from home so that I can be with you …
Work from home jobs are not easy to come by…looks like she may have to check out St Louis job search.

mommy at his service
Posted on December 2, 2009

(Pic taken on 30 Nov 09)
No need to turn your head left/right to figure out this picture
I was sitting at my desk, cross-legged and Aidan pulled up a stool next to me on my right so that he could suck his thumb and reach out to my hair with his left hand while I was working on the computer. In that picture, he was leaning onto my right lap. Sooooo manja la…and after 5 mins, he’d said in a tone of satisfaction, “Mm OK!” and then he left my study room.
Glad mommy could be of service to you, Dan!
This is definitely another perk of working from home!

17 Nov 09 - Aidan getting his fix
As you can tell by now, my kids have a thing for my hair - be it long or short, clean or in need of a wash, they like to grab a bunch of my hair and fiddle with the edges of my hair with the tips of their fingers or they like to brush the tips of my hair on their faces. It’s amazing how such simple things can make my kids happy. This morning, as I was working at my desk, Aidan pulled up a chair next to mine, climbed on top of it so that he could suck his right thumb and play with my hair with his left hand. After 2 mins, Ashley called out to him to play and he immediately let go of my hair, took his thumb out from his mouth and said, ‘Ok! Mommy. Bye.” And then he proceeded to get off the chair and went ahead to play with Ashley. Thumb sucking while playing with my hair was all he needed as his fix to move on. Sometimes, he’d stop what he’s doing, climb up the chair next to mine to suck his thumb and play with my hair for a minute or two and then he’d stop and continue playing. Well, I’m glad I can be of their service somehow while working from home :) Let’s just hope that don’t have to look for acne products when they get older as a result of all that hair brushing on their faces!
